Basel bands Rich Kid Blue and Gentle Beast
With the seemingly simple setup of guitar, bass, drums and vocals, Basel rock band Rich Kid Blue manages to sound like ten people with a ton of loudspeakers. The band have been going for over ten years, releasing EPs and touring all over Europe. In April 2023, they released their first full-length album "Overload", stacked with blues rock and stoner gems full of irresistible guitar riffs and whiskey-laced vocals. Their album release party together with Gentle Beast (see write-up below), Sons of Morpheus and No Mute at the Sommercasino Basel on April 28th was a triumph. You can buy "Overload" through Basel label Sixteentimes Music or all the usual music platforms. Singer Marc Obrist and guitarist Konrad Venetz joined us to talk about the recording process and finally being on stage again to play the songs live. Listen to the interview here.
Basel stoner rock band Gentle Beast have also released a new album, this one chock-a-block with heavy fuzz riffs and psychedelic stoner tunes. Gentle Beast formed in 2017, released their first record as a 7-inch called "Hit the Spliff" in 2019, and have toured extensively. They had their album release party together with Rich Kid Blue (see write-up above) at the Sommercasino at the end of April. Upcoming shows are on May 13th at the Kulta in Olten and on May 27th at the Metal Café Lörrach. The self-titled album "Gentle Beast" is available through Sixteentimes Music, Bandcamp, or all the usual music platforms. Guitarist Janek Huschke told us about the band's influences, the songwriting process, and how to choose opening tracks for albums. Listen to the interview here.
