The Upper Strata with new album "Hue"

Broadcast on:
7 February, 2023

Layering vocal harmonies, sequencers, thumping bass and spacey guitar, The Upper Strata are Reg and Johnny, a duo who create a unique mix of audio flavours and hues. Fittingly, their new album is called "Hue". It is a collection of colour meditations – part sensory experiment, and influenced by the duo’s travels. The album contains samples from Morocco, loops created in Malaysia, and a song written while stuck in traffic in Sacramento. All of this was combined and completed at The Upper Strata's homebase in Basel.

Reg and Johnny told us about songs written to colour, the concept of chromesthesia, and how to define your own sense of chromesthesia.

The Upper Strata are going on tour in March, starting off with a concert at the Carambolage in Basel on Saturday, 11 March 2023. You can buy the album on all the usual platforms, for example on Bandcamp. More links are here. Listen to Part 1 of the interview here, and Part 2 of the interview here.
