Semi-Circle - Lockdown in Little Grimley; Karena Stoner - The Candy Tree Of Muttenz

Broadcast on:
1 December, 2020

The Semi-Circle is Basel's English language amateur theater group which has been staging plays and musicals for 45 years. These Covid-constrained times have made it difficult to put on a show, but The Semi-Circle have found a solution. They performed their newest production "Lockdown in Little Grimley" before a small invited audience at the Theatre Arlecchino at the end of November. The performances were filmed and will soon be made available for online viewing - so fear not, you can still catch the play! Keep checking The Semi-Circle's website and Facebook page for updates on viewing dates. Semi-Circle president Mike Bray and directors David and Zuzana Cox gave us all the details on the play and how they managed to put on a show despite Covid restrictions. Listen to the interview here.

Karena Stoner was in the studio with us again! You may recall she was a recent guest making her appearance a few weeks ago with her book "Bâlehoo - An Expats Guide To Surviving - And Thriving! - In Basel" - an expert how-to guide for expats written by Karena, who is doing her "second tour" as an expat in our fair city. Karena has been taking advantage of the lockdown by using her extra energy and time at home to write a children's book as well: "The Candy Tree Of Muttenz". The book's story is inspired by a friend of the author whose tradition was to stuff a Christmas Tree full of candy and invite the neighborhood children to collect as many as they could when they came to visit. Soon to be available at Bider & Tanner, the supporting website has downloadable activities for kids, in addition to more information about the book. Visit our Facebook or Instagram page, and comment in "The Candy Tree" Post with your favorite candy to be entered into a raffle for a free copy of the book that Karena is giving away!
