Chelsea Czuchra/Lindsay Buffington and Sue Style

Broadcast on:
30 June, 2015

Chelsea Czuchra has been living in the Basel region since 2000 working in the city as a freelancer and teacher.  In her "downtime" she is also an accomplished flautist/flutist.  Along with her bandmates Lindsay Buffington on harp, and guitarist Jeremy Bass, they will be playing concerts around Basel in support of their upcoming appearance at a new music festival in Maccagno, Italy (in the Italian Alps) in early July called Soundscape.  We had the pleasure of their company in the studios to give us a taste of their musical stylings as well as details about their upcoming local appearances. Their show will take place this Thursday at 19:30pm. For more information send an email to kiwichristine@fastmail.fm.

Sue Style, our globally renowned food/wine/good-times writer and English Show contributor, was also on the show.  This week we went on a taste-ological journey along the banks of the Rhine to celebrate the arrival (finally) of summer weather...and warmer water - in case you're brave enough to jump in for a Rhine swim (some safety tips and suggestions here).  Once you've worked up a thirst or appetite, find your way to the following summer watering holes:

Basel / Veronica Badehysli - The restaurant sits on stilts out on the river, on St. AlbanRheinweg near the Paper museum.  A proper "Bad" and restaurant/bar. Leave your togs here in one of the lockers, go for a dip and come back to the restaurant for a drink or a meal.

Village Neuf / La Piste du Rhin - A lively French restaurant just across the border from Basel with gorgeous views from the terrace, a great little seasonal menu, brilliant burgers and ice creams worth a special detour.

Weil Am Rhein / China Rheinpark - Located just over the Passerelle des Trois Pays, across from Huningue on the German side - park in Huningue/France and walk across the footbridge or take the #8 tram in Basel right to the terminus, then walk. The restaurant features Chinese food and an all-you-can-eat buffet on certain days.  Outdoor terrace seating too, so you can watch the cargo ships come and go...
