Semi-Circle Theatre Group, Rob Stuart, Kevin Richmond's Culture Round-Up

Broadcast on:
2 June, 2015

The Semi-Circle Basel is a non-profit organisation that promotes English-speaking theatre in the region of Basel and the public performance of dramatic works in the English language. Their Spring Production 2015 is Entertaining Angels by Richard Everett. The play is not just about love, grief, denial, acceptance, forgiveness and moving on - it also involves a hamster, a lawn mower, a French polisher and other witty diversions! Director David Cox was in the studio to tell us what to expect. Listen to the interview again here.

We also had Rob Stuart with us, talking about the newest cinema releases and 'tha haps' in the world of cinema. The winner at the 68th Cannes Film Festival 2015 is Dheepa directed by Jacques Audiard. Stadtkino Basel is showcasing the life and times of film director John Huston (The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1950), The Asphalt Jungle (1950), The African Queen (1951) and more). Other films featured in this week's review by Rob: Learning to Drive, A World Beyond, and Mad Max.

And finally, our Arts Correspondent Kevin Richmond gave us a Basel Culture Round-Up for June 2015, summing up what's happening in the city in the next few weeks: from Basel Ballett's Dance Lab 7 at the Theatre Basel and the still-running Juditha triumphans to the Stopgap Dance Company at the Kaserne on June 8th. Also, don't miss the always interesting Wildwuchs Festival, which has dance performances, theatre, workshops and more. If you fancy some art, go to the Liste Art Fair, the fair for young and up-and-coming galleries and artists that runs parallel to the more established Art Basel. The Schaulager - designed by Herzog & DeMeuron - is a storage building and exhibition space that looks nothing like any storage house you've ever seen. They will be showing what they have in storage in the coming months. Listen to Kevin's segment again here.

Our music theme was inspired by Muse's concert at Sonisphere in Switzerland this coming Saturday. The only other band to come close to Muse's genre-bending operatic space-rock is Queen. We also added Radiohead because, well, it's Radiohead.

Muse - Uprising

Radiohead - Airbag

Queen - Killer Queen

Muse - Assassin

Muse - Plug In Baby

Queen - Another One Bites The Dust

Muse - Bliss

Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
