Kevin Hill, Nic Oatridge

Broadcast on:
25 March, 2014

Artist Kevin Hill came into the studio to talk about his newest exhibition, which will be shown at Centrepoint until the end of June 2014. Kevin has lived in Basel for almost 40 years. His arrival here was, in his own words, more coincidental than otherwise but he soon discovered an instant love of the city and settled. Self-taught, he describes his style as 'comic realism'. It combines a depth of artistic talent with a pleasing sensitivity for the play of light and shadow. His atmospheric landscapes and studies of surrounding town and country have led to invitations to exhibit in Allschwil, Rheinfelden, Solothurn, Germany and, not least, Ireland.

You can still go skiing in the mountains - just! Nic Oatridge told us about Grindelwald. Truly one of the world's greatest and oldest winter sports destinations. The legendary mountain railways make this area one of the most accessible to get to, and the range of skiing, snowboarding and winter walking options is huge. Underneath the North face of the Eiger, Grindelwald is the busiest and most substantial of the Jungfrau resorts. It has a wide range of accommodation, including a couple of good backpacker hostels, and plenty of activities for those who do not ski or snowboard.

Our music theme this week was Art Rock & Pop in the broadest sense, to tie in with our guest Kevin Hill and all the art going on in Basel! We played Alt-J, Animal Collective, David Bowie, Florence + The Machine, MGMT, Porcupine Tree, Roxy Music, Vampire Weekend and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
