Rob Stuart, David P. France Dance Company

Broadcast on:
11 February, 2014

This week, our cinema expert Rob Stuart came into the studios to talk about David O. Russell's American Hustle with Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. Wonderfully acted and with a great 70s soundtrack. Another film worth checking out is George Clooney's World War II-set The Monuments Men. There's also Disconnected, about cybermobbing, and Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, with Idris Elba as Nelson Mandela. Head to your cinema now!

We were delighted to have David P. France and Shalini Trefzer on The English Show tonight. David is an accomplished and inspiring dancer with a wide range of influences including Alvin Ailey, Richard Pierlon, Fred Benjamin and Alfred Gallman. Shalini is the master of Bollywood dance and has given lessons for years. Both artists share a common philosophy about dance:  dance is about well-being, problem solving, team building, expression, and fitness. They will team up to give you a beautiful international blend of styles on April 26th at the Union on Klybeckstrasse. This is a performance you will not want to miss! Listen to the interview again here.

Our music theme this week was female singer-songwriters and all-female bands who have released music in the last year, so we played both up-and-comers and established acts: Chloë Howl, Anna Calvi, Ellie Goulding, M.I.A., Sky Ferreira, Warpaint, Angel Olsen, Sarah Jarosz, Laura Marling and finally, the godmother of punk, Patti Smith.

Swissgerman Phrase of the Week

We all know how to order another drink now („no eins, bitte!“), but then there comes that pesky moment when you have to pay for everything. What next? Do the squiggle in the air, that non-verbal international sign for paying the bill, or say: „könnt ich bitte d’Rächnig ha?“ („could I please have the bill?“). Or less formally, short and sweet: „d’Rächnig, bitte“ („the bill, please“). Go on, we dare you.
