August 20, 2013: Man found dead on the Autobahn, Two dead after a tragic car accident

On Monday morning shortly after 2:15 AM, a motorist reported a dead man on the Autobahn.  When police arrived at the scene within minutes, the victim was on the right side of the A3 in the direction of Zurich and may have been hit by one or more vehicles.

 

The deceased was a 27-year-old asylum seeker from Egypt. As the circumstances of his death are still unclear, the police are looking for witnesses. The prosecution Rheinfelden-Laufenburg has opened a criminal investigation. At the accident site, there is a bridge and it is uncertain whether the man fell from the bridge in front a car.

 

Since no motor vehicles involved in the accident were present, the police also investigating recently damaged vehicles. Firefighters were directing traffic via Canton Road while the motorway section between Eiken and Frick towards Bözberg tunnel was closed to traffic until 6:30 clock in order for the police to complete their investigation. The prosecution and defense have already agreed to a penalty of manslaughter with possible imprisonment for three years.

Just before 9:30 am Sunday, a crashed vehicle was discovered at the embankment of Challstrasse in Metzerlenstrasse. According to the Solothurn Canton police, the rescuers could only see at first that two passengers were dead.

 

It is still unknown where the car came from exactly and why the car plunged down the slope. The exact circumstances of the accident are the subject of ongoing investigations. The Challstrasse was temporarily closed for the recovery of the vehicle and the deceased.
