3 September, 2013: Sexual Predator Menaces Basel, Fitness Club bans member...for Sweating at the gym, Shooting at Basel Restaurant, CSI Basel, Check Points at Border Crossings

Police are investigating two instances of alleged sexual assault and robbery this past weekend in Basel.  On Friday, a 59 year old woman was attacked near the Birsig Uferweg by an unknown assailant.  When the woman struggled and screamed for help the attacker snatched her purse and fled on foot.  A subsequent search by authorities upon their arrival was unsuccesful in apprehending the assailant.  On Sunday, shortly before 7 am a similar attack occurred on the St.Alban-Anlage where a 25 year old woman was grabbed from behind by her hair and dragged to a bench where she was assaulted.  Again, as the victim resisted and screamed the attacker took the woman's cell phone and fled on foot.  

Initial reports by both victims describe a tall, slender 25 year old man with short hair.  Rene Gsell of the Basel prosecutors office said authorities are trying to determine of the cases are related, and the assailant is the same.

Last Tuesday, the Fitmade Gym in Basel was the scene of an unlikely altercation.  According to a disgruntled member, upon finishing with a treadmill he wiped his perspiration from the steppers of the device to move to another exercise machine.  However, the manager on duty at the time was not satisfied with the extent to which the patron had removed his sweat.  an argument ensued as the patron refused to further clean the machine to which the manager responded by threatening to physically carry him out.     Ultimately the patron left after an argument which witnesses described as "heated".  The President of the Fitmade Studio, Claude Ammann, in response to inquiries about the incident has said ""The fact that such a thing happened in one of our 300 Studios is unimaginable," ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Last Thursday evening at approximately 9pm a 46 year old man was shot in the abdomen at the restaurant Landesgrenze near the french border crossing on Elsasserstrasse.  The shooting was preceded by a verbal altercation between the victim (a French national of Tunisian origin) and an older Baseler man of Italian descent in the restaurant's dining room.  After being shot in the abdomen, the victim walked to the Police station in St. Louis and returned with officers to the scene of the shooting where the shooter was found and arrested by police.  The victim was subsequently taken to the hospital in St. Louis for treatment.  The police and prosecutors office in Basel are investigating the circumstances of the shooting and why no one at the restaurant notified police when the shooting occured. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++   Due to increasing crime in Basel , the Institute of Forensic Medicine need to upgrade . Two to three times a day they have to move out , but the reasons are usually not murders as you might know it from CSI Miami. While they used to have more to do with dead victims of crime , they now have a lot more to do with victims who are alive . In the last ten years, the number of victims doubled - alone in 2012 500 , sometimes seriously injured people had to be examined. The many facial injuries such as Skull fractures , jaw fractures , bleeding wounds are of particular concern. - But there are also some positive news . The number of peer-reviewed by us sexual offenses , for example, has remained constant over the years , but the crimes are much more commonly solved. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++  

In the early hours of Sunday morning Saint Louis and Mulhouse Gendarmes set up some major check points on the road between Bourgfelden and Hegenhiem and road between Hegenhiem and Hesingue. A couple of hundred motorists were checked for alcohol and drugs, but despite the large presence of the law only 4 people were arrested or received infringements.

 

The 4 motorists caught included, 1 for driving under the influence of alcohol, 1 for driving under the influence of drugs, one for speeding and one for driving without a seatbelt.
