Dig It! Gardening Tips with Hester Macdonald - Perennials - September 2015

Hester Macdonald, contributing correspondent of the BlueBox team, garden designer and founder of the Swiss Gardening School, hosts our regular gardening segment, Dig It! The autumn can feel like the end of flowering for many plants, but there are a group of fantastic perennials that are just getting going. Echinaceas, Heleniums and Sedums are coming into their own right now. Hester spoke to Peter van Ruyssen of Plantipp, a new plant promoter in Holland, at the plant fair Plantarium, about their new Helenaium "Short and Sassy." It is long-flowering and compact, fully cold hardy and perfect for a pot. He also presented the new SunSparkler Sedums, with superb metallic foliage and months of flowering. Look out for them now in a garden centre near you.
