Why Do the Swiss Have Such Great Sex?, Basel Museums Night 2019

Broadcast on:
22 January, 2019

Ashley Curtis is the Swiss-American author of four books recently or soon to be published by Swiss presses, as well as numerous articles and short stories. His most recent book has the catchy title "Why Do the Swiss Have Such Great Sex?" and asks questions that you never thought to ask. Could a tsunami strike Switzerland? Do Swiss cows commit suicide? Do you need a PhD to vote in Swiss elections? These and 60 other questions open like trapdoors on a bizarre and bewitching Switzerland. "Why Do the Swiss Have Such Great Sex?" provides the answers - and through them an intimate and unabashed portrait of a land both sober and surreal. Listen to our interview with Ashley Curtis again here.

Have you always wanted to visit the Tinguely, Spielzeugwelten or Papiermühle Museum? Or a smaller museum like the Cartoonmuseum? Museums Night Basel last Friday was a chance to go see them all in one evening - but obviously they're open all year round. Around 33'000 people wandered from museum to museum on January 18th, which is a new record. To give you a taste of Museums Night, reporter Ingrid Koning roamed around Basel and spoke to one of the organisers, Nicolas Schmutz, as well as various participants in the museums. Next year will be the 20th edition of Museums Night with lots of extras, so keep that in mind for 2020! Listen to the report again here.
