Sue Style, Gadget Guru - Nintendo, Infofenster 2 - German Courses

Broadcast on:
25 October, 2016

Our food expert Sue Style came into the studio to talk about Mexican cuisine! Sue lived in Mexico for seven years, wrote The Mexican Cookbook years and years ago (out of print, copies available on the internet), and gives workshops on Mexican (as well as other) cuisines. Restaurants in Basel include La Piratita - the only one in Basel doing authentic Mexican (the owner comes from Sonora), tacos al pastor, quesadillas, moles and meat dishes + Friday night is buffet night (often with mariachis). You could also try El Mexicano - a mixture of genuine dishes and Tex-Mex; or Desperado, a brand-new (opened September 2016) resto and bar ("Mex you happy"). Then you've got Papa Joe's, which is full-on Tex -Mex; and Tacoteca, near Markthalle - chips, nachos, soft and crisp tacos, wraps and more.

Or, for the real thing, make your own! 1) Get a good book, e.g. The Mexican Cookbook by Sue Style, available online (used copies) or 2) Come to one of Sue's Mexican workshops, weekdays or Saturday mornings with lunch (contact Sue if interested). Where to get the ingredients: Coop, Migros (avocados, limes, chiles, flour tortillas (not corn/maize tortillas, taste like wallpaper), tortilla chips, tropical fruit, canned beans etc.) - also Asian speciality stores have e.g. gorgeous bunches of cilantro/coriander, rather than the miserable little packages on sale in supermarkets, fresh chillies etc.

Hot (ha!) tip: Mexican speciality shop El Sol in Allschwil - they supply Mexican restos and shops all over Switzerland and also do retail: tortilla flour, tortilla press, corn tortillas (fresh and frozen), beans galore, canned and dried chiles, salsas etc. Great people, tell 'em Sue sent you!

Ian the Gadget Guru takes a look at Nintendo's announcement of its new ganes console for 2017. Will it be enough to increase Nintendo's market share and bring the company back to its profits of old? Listen to the segment again here.
