Radio X is launching its new cutting edge studio in the Dreispitz in the coming weeks at the site of the Kunstfreilager. The English Show returned to the airwaves in a provisional studio in anticipation of the full scale launch next month.

Sue Style dropped by to share with us some magnificent vineyard walking tours. We also hosted Alex Kaeslin, photographer, who will be sharing a collection of photographs on Centrepoint's next Artwall installation beginning next Wednesday, September 8.

July 6th, Claire and Sarah Bowman, Ken Freedman, Rob Stuart

Sarah und Claire Bowman visited Basel last May. We spoke with them as they were setting up their show at the Parterre. Matt Morelock put it best "The Bowmans sound is like- if Simon and Garfunkel were two twin sisters from Iowa." We took the opportunity to find out more about these gals and their music, and how changes inthe music industry are affecting them.

We look at another side of the evolution of the music industry when we talk to Ken Freedman, Station Manager of WFMU NJ, and originator of the copywright-cleared free music archive ( "It's not just free music; it's good music" ). Ken was in Basel to speak at the open media conference two weeks ago. Maria and Matt brought Ken to the studio to tell us a bit about the conference, ongoing changes in radio broadcasting and Basel's contribution to the development of open media.

After a years' holiday Orange Cinema returns to Basel. We can once more experience a month's great Open Air Cinema on the Munster Square above the Rhein. Rob Stuart, TES Cinema Reviewer, stopped by to give us the his pick of this year's high-powered schedule: Sam Mendes’s Away We Go (Mon Aug 16), Modern Times with Charlie Chaplin (Sat Aug 28) and Down By Law (Fri Aug 27) directed by Jim Jarmusch. Andreas Häner Tierschutz Beider Basel - the Tierschutz Beider Basel is a private non profit organization for the protection of animals and provides many services for local pet owners - including boarding animals at low cost in a friendly environment and helping to retrieve lost pets. Andreas Häner of the Tierschutz Beider Basel stops by to tell us about a new initiative to rebuild the Tierheim, currently located beneath the freeway at Breite.

The Open University has been present in Geneva since 1992 - nearly 900 students are currently studying with the Open University in Switzerland. Margaret Johnson is here from Nyon to tells us about their programs.

June 22nd Andreas Bigger, Steve Long, HRH Arvind Singh Mewar, Maharana of Udiapur

Dr. Andreas Bigger, documentarian, tells us about an ongoing project to digitize rare books from the University of Basel's library collection and make those materials available to all on-line, starting with the oldest, most precious volumes. For the more traditional reader, the university library is open to all residents of the Basel area - you can apply for a library card in person or on line: to gain access to their fabulous collection and, via interlibrary loan, the collections of the university libraries across Switzerland. Their webpage is largely in German - but many of their 3 million volumes are in English. You can check their catalog on line.

Steve Long from InterSoccer tells Ciarán about that organization. InterSoceer offers 200 soccer camps to children in eight cities in Switzerland, including Basel.

Among the many luminaries drawn to Basel during the last week , Roy and Maria had the unique pleasure to speak with Arvind Singh Mewar, also known as HRH the Maharanah of Udiapur. HRH the Maharanah tells us about the ongoing work of his charitable foundation, and especially its emphasis on education and preserving Hindustani culture.

Tonight Unitarian Minister Mark Morrison-Reed tells Maria about his time at the School of Humanity, celebrating its 100'th anniversary this weekend. Mark's memorable entry into the now classic anthology Ticking Along with the Swiss entitled Föhn Within has grown into a full-blown memoir: In Between: The story of an Integration Baby. You can hear more stories from Mark at his book reading this Thursday at 7:00 pm at Centrepoint, in Lohenhof 8.

Debbie Lindenmeyer is a bilingual counsellor who offers guidance and support for Basel area expats: Life Transitions, Sickness, Crisis, Educational challenges, Cultural challenges, Relationship Problems, all have an extra edge when two cultures are involved. Her pragmatic approach includes language facilitation when needed to interface with local services to find solutions. June 8th, Andy Habermacher, Volta Art Fair, Migros Klubschule

Among the various art fairs in Basel this week (ART BASEL, VOLTA, SCOPE, LISTE) the Volta Art Fair stands out as presenting emerging and cutting edge art. The fair, which runs from Wednesday June 16th through Sunday June 20th, is located at the Dreispitzhalle close to the Schaulager will present the work from 80 galleries. TES correspondant Ciarán speaks with Christoph Handschin about a newish series of leisure courses at the Klubschule Migros Basel in English - the M-International Programme.
