18 January: Sue Style, Nicole De Virgiliis and Gaynor Dunraven
Our ever-popular kitchen expert, Sue Style, kicks off this week’s show on a topical note – just how to prepare home-made soup from using all the winter veggies now available in the shops. The key to success is the Magic Package: Suppengemüse (known as légumes pot-au-feu in France) - a nifty little combination of leeks, carrots, a turnip, some celery and an onion. And, according to Sue, these versatile vegetables can be used for anything (well almost) - soup certainly, but also gratins, quiches, pies. Listen in to find out if the sky’s the limit.

Ever wanted a healthy workout, only to become depressed by all the machines at the gym? And then there’s aerobics of course, but a lot of people are turned off by all the regimented moving about. Then Zumba might just be for you. Against a background of hypnotic Latin music, it’s an easy-to-follow, dance fitness programme. Check out this week’s show for an interview with Nicole De Virgiliis. Last year she set up Zumba Basel, a new club near Claraplatz in Kleinbasel, with 1-hour classes each workday evening full of people eager to Party their way to fitness.
As regular listeners already know, Semicircle, Basel’s ever-popular English-speaking theatre group, is presenting its own version of ‘Rent’ - the powerful rock opera based on Puccini’s La Boheme. The English Show’s Gaynor Dunraven went along to last weekend’s auditions and spoke to Julian David, just one of the 65 talented performers hoping for an invite to join the cast for the June production.
