April 27th Carlo Mombelli, Joanne Ralph
TES Roving Reporter Roy Zuckerman interviews celebrated South African Jazzman and composer Carlo Mombelli, currently hosted by the Center For African Studies at the University of Basel and the Hochschule für Musik, where is conducting a series of workshops in Jazz Theory. His exciting ensemble, The Carlo Mombelli Project performed April 27 at the Birdseye, off the Barfüsserplatz. (see Roy's review in "music reviews). Later this month, Friday April 30 and Saturday 1 May, he will play with his group "The Prisoners of Strange-European Edition" at the Birdseye and Roche 'N Jazz at the Tinguely Museum to highlight the release of their new CD.

Jo Ralph, TES Theatre Critic, tells Ciarán about three exciting upcoming performances. Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro will be coming to the Basel Theatre in May and June. The ballet Milk & Honey premiered last Friday, choreographed by guest choreographer Ohad Naharin and Basel Theatre's own Ballet Director Richard Wherlock’s , to the music of Georges Gruntz, a Basel jazz musician. Last but not least, Das Geisterschiff (The Ghost ship) is playing at the Basel Schauspielhaus (in German).
