9 February: Andy Habermacher, Jooce Garrett, Peter Meixner
Andy Habermacher, our resident communications expert, came in to talk about the basics of communication. These cover ideas like sender and receiver and how our brains interpret language. The brain is ironically the biggest obstacle to communication because of its ability to distort, delete and generalise information. First steps to overcoming this are being very careful about making assumptions and using simple clear language to get your point across. Go to Andy's website for more information.
Jooce Garrett is an artist who lives and works in Basel. He has a new exhibition opening on March 4th at Centrepoint in the Lohnhof above Barfüsserplatz. The title of the exhibition is Ads, Nudes & Dancers and it includes artwork, drawings and portraits. Jooce has had a successful career as a commercial artist and now concentrates on figures and portrait work. The exhibition runs until the end of May.
Peter Meixner and his daughter Ella came in to talk about their project to raise money for Haiti. They have asked to students at the Swiss International School to write stories for a book, proceeds from the sale of which will go to relief work. You can get more information from their website or by writing to them.
