December 8th, Andrea Samborski, Guy Morin, Andy Habermacher, Ian Sowers

Andrea Samborski, musician,  has just returned from Canada and sang for us in the studio. She has a show coming up on the 16th of December at 8.30 at Parterre. Special guests are David Hope from Ireland, and Baum, both of whom she recently toured with in Ireland. You can hear more of Andrea`s music on her myspace site

Ciarán spoke with TES communications contributor Andy Habermacher. Many of us start a new year by trying to turn over a new leaf, only to find that we're back in our bad old ways within a few weeks or even days. Andy talked about how to make New Year's resolutions stick.

The first principle is that we should plan a change in behaviour before trying to do it. This is because the brain creates well-trodden pathways for our habits and it's very hard to break out of these without giving the brain notice that we want to overcome those pathways. This can take as long as three months! Secondly, your plans have to be concrete - set yourself practical goals, not vague ideals. The third key idea is that the language we use can make a difference. If, for example, you want to stop smoking, instead of saying "I'm going to stop smoking" you should say "I am a non-smoker". For more information, keep listening to Andy's insights on the English Show.

Louise Haughton, TES Restaurant Critic, gives a report on her recent survey of the Basel Café scene.

Ciarán interviewed Basel's Regierungspräsident Guy Morin about his political background and the success of the Green Party in Basel politics. They also discussed the role of the English-speaking community on Basel and the importance of life sciences to the city. An excerpt of that interview is broadcast tonight. For the full interview, see our Extended Interviews page.

Ian Sowers from Checkorphan.org was on the show, talking about this Basel-based organisation which does research into rare, orphan and neglected diseases. Find out more from their website.

All these guests, plus the Basel and national news, sports, and cultural events from Basel and over the Borders in Germany and France.
