December 15th,Geri Stuart for Kinder in Kenya, Saving Grace, Simone Littlejohn & Denise Casonova

Geri StuartGeri Stuart was our guest this evening talking about a charity directly involved in relief work in Africa.

Kinder in Kenia is Basel-based charity founded in 1995 by Grene Schait Maleko. She has established a numbner of projects in the village in Kenya where she used to live. The aim is to educate children and break the poverty cycle - more than 40 children have been through school thanks to her organisation. The Charity also set up and supports a farm, a tailoring school, a woodwork shop and a family planinng group among many other things.  The village's life has been transformed and people now want to move there because of its facilities.

A current challenge is to build a wall round the farm to protect against thieves. The group needs to raise money to buy 35000 bricks for this. If you'd like to support this work please contact Kinder in Kenya at www.kinderinkenia.org or call 078 712 4902.

Alexandra Meier, Nina Meier-Bradlin, Amilee Bishop, Rosie Marasco, Geri Stuart, Hafid BenzaouiSaving Grace, a Basel vocal trio whose members come from The US, The UK and Canada, performed for us in the studio with some of their friends. Although they don't perform together often any more since their pianist moved back to the UK, they are doing a concert for Kinder in Kenia. The three singers (Nina Meier-Bradlin, Geraldine Stuart and Rosie Marasco) will be joined by special guests singer Ann McClymont, violinist Petra Jauslin, the Bishop Family Singers and and pianist Marco Scilironi. Father Armin Russi will be rocking the house with the Pharaoh song from Joseph.

The concert will be at the Katholisches Studentenhaus on Herbergsgasse 7 (near Peterskirche and Radio X!) this Saturday, 19th December at 7:30pm. Admission is free. Donations are appreciated. There will be Kenyan snacks, Christmas treats and Glühwein on sale. At the end of the concert, everyone is invited to join in some carol singing.

Simone Littlejohn Denise CasonovaSimone Littlejohn & Denise Casonova, who, along with Mahoko Schürch,  authored a local classic for families on the go, Family Fun.  Kid-tested and mom-approved, it's an indispensible guide to where to go and what to do with children in the local area.

Congratulations to Alan Taylor and Patrick Kilbane, winners of a pair of tickets each to see  Brendon Burns, Paul Provenza, Barry Castagnola perform at Funny Laundry at the Kuppel this Thursday.

All these guests, plus the Basel and national news, sports, and cultural events from Basel and over the borders in Germany and France.
