Pot Pilot Project Set To Start; Inheritance Scams On The Rise; Pollen Problems Persist

Basel Stadt is looking to recruit 400 adults to participate in a pilot project to evaluate the impact of legal marijuana sales.  To participate , one must be a legally defined adult, and be evaluated by the doctor in charge of the study for their suitability to participate.  In addition, those selected will be regularly surveyed over the two and a half year life of the study about the effects of legalized purchases on their well-being and consumer behavior.  Registration for the study will begin in August, and those selected will be able to purchase their weed at local pharmacies.

Basel Police have released a warning that fraudsters are targeting individuals via social media with fake notifications of inheritances.  Individuals are targeted with official looking documents from a law firm promising millions in inheritance money from distant, recently-deceased relatives. Those responding are instructed to quickly send a few thousand francs for legal fees, which, of course, are never recovered.  Needless to say, there is no inheritance either.

For allergy sufferers, the start of spring is usually greeted with runny noses and watery eyes.  This spring however, trees are blooming with exceptional amounts of pollen as a result of the dry, sunny weather coming on the heels of last year's torrential rains throughout the Spring and Summer.  Meteonews also reports that many tree varieties started blooming in mid January this year, earlier than average, and probably attributable to continuing global warming trends.
