Ann-Sophie Mutter and Pittsburgh Symphony Triumph Saturday, May 15
In a sold out concert at the Stadt-Casino Saturday night, May 15, Ann-Sophie Mutter and the highly regarded Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra amply satisfied the audience's expectations. Under the energetic direction of Manfred Honeck, Ms. Mutter delivered a nuanced and powerful ViolonKonzert in D Major, Opus 77 and wowed them with a solo Bach encore. The second part of the program featured the Orchestra alone playing Anton Dvorak's Synphony no. 8 in G Major, op.88, which the crowd (yours truly included) certainly loved, plus a series of popular encores.
This highly anticipated program was all one could wish for. The glamorous and prodigiously talented Ms. Mutter lived the music and was at one with the conductor and orchestra. The Pittsburgh Symphony with Mr. Honeck proved why it is one of the world's favorite ensembles. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
