The English Seminar Choir graced us with a preview of their Christmas Concerts, live from the Radio X studio. Musicologist and Choir member Tim McTaggart explains the origins of the two pieces they performed, one by American William Billings followed by Tanzanian Eduardi Kabuka's piece. Later we hear from Kirstin Barton that the the first concert is on Sunday the 7th of December, at the Christengemeinschaft, Langegasse 11, a short walk from Aeschenplatz. Two days later on Tuesday the 9th of December, a second perormance will be held at Nadelberg 6, in old town Basel. Entrance is free, and donations are much appreciated to help cover costs. Find out more at www.esc-basel.ch
Thanks to Sharon Marshall, Patricia Turner, Britt Johnston, Jennifer Wilson, and Roger Ridley, for joining Kirstin and Tim with their mellifluous voices.
Kirstin Barton reveals that Centrepoint, Basel's English speaking International organization, is growing and now boasts 700 member families hailing from 50 countries around the world. www.centrepoint.ch
Centrepoint hosts daily events, including language practice groups, and other social events. Coming up on the 12th of December is a vernisage to celebrate the newest Artwall display featuring the paintings of Franziska Daniels.

Thomas Kissling, previous guest on The English Show, invites Centrepoint members and friends to a Spezi Clique Workshop on December 13th. CHF 35/person will cover your materials cost to make your own Fasnacht mask. Maybe you will be inspired to join the clique, which has opened itself up to members of the international community. contact thomas.kissling (at) swissmail.org or sign up at the Centrepoint reception desk.
Every day something is happening at Centrepoint. join them for discussion groups in English, Italian, Spanish or German; the Friday Apero, Bookworm club or Movie Night, or one of the many talks, eventa and workshops you'll find at Basel's English speaking International organization. www.centrepoint.ch |

Pasqualina Barrazza, Managing Director of Benevol Basel, joined us to describe a volunteer program for native German speakers who would like to promote Basel integration and make new friends. Interested people may be local or not, but need be native speakers of German, familiar with Basel and its culture, and interested in other cultures. Call Benevol at 061 261 7424. And if you are a foreign resident of Basel and would like to find a conversation partner, please have a conversational level of German, and an interest in learning more about Basel and it's culture.
Hercules and Love Affair is an up and coming Band from New York, with a talented and active group of musicians. They are on a European Tour, and lead singer Nomi Ruiz stopped in to our studio to have a short chat with Matt. Listen to the interview and two of the tracks off their recent self-titled album.

The Basel chapter has nurtured regional and European winners in public speaking. Toastmasters is nonprofit, and meetings are run by volunteers. Contact to find out how you can be supported in developing your leadership and communications skills.
