Infinite Jest is takes place in a semi-parodic future North America, and features a tennis academy for prodigies, a halfway house for recovering drug addicts, and a film so entertaining that watching it becomes its viewer's only desire. In 2005 Time magazine included the book in its list of the 100 best English-language novels since 1923.

August Kunzel, garden architect,  will offer a highly interesting  "tree to tree" tour of the flora at 6:00 pm, Jazz-Blood will perform at various venues throughout the day , and fine artist Ruth Handschin will present  her offbeat and amusing take on Louis XIV, biodiversity, design, and undergarments, "Les Dessous du Roi", in the "Red Salon".  Much, much, more.

Zinstagg, Sr. was a celebrated goldsmith and violinist in Basel, and lived for many years on the Birs.

The evening will commence at 7:30 on the Ferry, where excerpts of the  book will be read  (and translated!).

About the artist:

Ushio Shinohara was born in Tokyo in 1932, just when Japan was about to enter an age of great change. This was a time when many of the youth were questioning the accepted cultural norms and many young artists were exploring new artistic forms.  In 1957, Shinohara organized the  “Neo Dada” group, one of the most radical avant-garde collectives in postwar Japan.

This exhibition is in collaboration with Ethan Cohen Fine Arts, New York, NY.Vernissage: September 24, 2010, 18-21h  Ethan Cohen, Director, Ethan Cohen Fine Arts, will be delivering an introduction at 19h.  Apero to follow.
