A Serious Man

This dramatically dark comedy tells the story of an ordinary man who is trying to find a balance and understanding on the world - a modern retelling of the story of Job. It’s the late sixties in Minneapolis and Larry Gopnik a Jewish physics professor lives with his troubled family. Danny, his son smokes marijuana, Judith his wife wants a divorce and wants to be with a family friend and widower called Sy. Daughter Sarah appears to be stealing to pay for a nose job while his brother Arthur has been crashing on the sofa for months writing a maths paper. His wife eventually empties out all his savings leaving him penniless and even one of his students claims his exams are unfair. Larry is up for tenure but the committee has received too many defamatory letters about him. To cope with his troubles he turns to three Rabbis for advice.
