District 9

Directed by Neill Blomkamp, and produced by Lord of the Rings and King Kong master director Peter Jackson. This is a Sci-Fi B-movie featuring a gigantic spaceship, with ‘stalk-and-flee action’ and alien mayhem that frazzles and dazzles the eyeballs. This film has shot to the top of the box office in its opening week to great reviews. The good-looking spaceship becomes stranded over Jo’berg. The aliens, instead of launching an attack, as normal aliens would do, have to be rescued! Looking horribly like big, walking prawns they get herded into a camp called District 9, interrogated and treated like asylum seekers, that is very badly. Later on a they’re evicted and sent to a concentration camp not unlike the old wacko society of apartheid-style South Africa. Then the incompetent field worker in charge of operations becomes infected with alien DNA. The plot becomes a nightmare of genetic experimentation where nasty humans are adapting the aliens’ more powerful weapons for violent human nastiness.
