Che: The Argentinian

The most important movie at the Basel Cinema’s at the moment is Che: The Argentinian, starring Benicio Del Toro and directed by Steve Soderbergh, who worked with Del Toro on the drug buster “Traffic”. Also stars Julia Ormond and Franklin Diaz. It runs for 126 minutes but its only Part I. Part II comes out later in Swiss Cinemas as a sequel otherwise it would be a marathon four hour film. It is a long drama depicting the hero's volatile, South American history. Starting On 26 November 1956 Fidel Castro along with 80 rebel soldiers landed on the island of Cuba. One of these rebels was the good doctor and activist Ernesto "Che" Guevara who along with Castro attempted to bring down the Dictator Fulgencio Batista. Che of course becomes famous as the Guerilla rebel and world renowned folk hero.
