Where were you born, and where have you lived so far?
Basel born and bred, and have lived in the US, UK, Germany and France.
How long have you been living in the region?
Most of my life, with short and long periods abroad.
Why Basel?
Basel Fasnacht. I’m one of the thousands of usually buttoned-up, suddenly slightly mad costumed Swiss citizens that roam the streets for three days and nights.
What's your favourite place for a coffee or drink with friends in this region?
Da Graziella in the Gundeli for a great espresso, Unternehmen Mitte for the latte machiatos, and Eo Ipso for its killer cocktails. Outside town, I love Restaurant Bergmatten in Hofstetten for its spectacular views to France and Germany and the camels wandering in the fields. (Yes, you read that correctly – camels.)
Favourite bands or singers?
Depeche Mode and Muse.
Where's your favourite place in Switzerland?
You’d think I’d know my own country, but I keep going across borders instead. Any suggestions are gratefully received!
What is the most important advice you would give to someone new to Basel or Switzerland?
Learn some basic German. Get to know the Swiss people at your workplace, not just the expats. Ask them about their favorite places in Basel and get them to show you around – most will be happy to show off their town.
What languages do you speak?
English, German/Swiss-German, French
What is your favourite word in Swiss German?
E Gfrörli. Someone who feels the cold very quickly.
Why did you join The English Show team?
They needed someone who could pronounce Chuchichäschtli.
What's your day job?
Video production.
Why do you think The English Show is good for Basel, France and Germany?
The English Show is the perfect place to find out what’s going on, especially if you’re new to the area.
